Kitchen Design Can Be Personal... But You Can Trust CRS to Get it Right

Piece by piece, this senior’s facility kitchen design came together perfectly.
When you think about a commercial restaurant kitchen, it’s easy to picture a glamorous reality TV kitchen all tricked out with the latest in fancy appliances and gadgets. These kitchens seem to host an endless amount of space and have highly-trained cooks running all over the place.
These are perhaps the kitchen designs that dreams are made of, but the experts at Canadian Restaurant Supply (CRS) love a design project that challenges them to think outside of the box. Certainly, from the initial client meeting to the design plans to the actual commercial kitchen construction and post-construction follow-up, CRS consultants are there to listen and collaborate with owners from start to finish.
A project that provided interesting challenges for the CRS team was a commercial kitchen design for Clinton Seniors Facility.
From the get-go, it was clear that there were certain kitchen features the facility staff were determined to have implemented. This was a space that needed a simple layout to ensure that cooks who were not professionally trained in a commercial kitchen could easily navigate all areas. The kitchen had to feel ‘homey’ and foster community. To encourage a connection between staff and residents, the CRS team was required to create a design that included an open window area so staff could greet the residents with a cheery hello when they passed by.
Unlike the reality TV kitchens, this project was located inside a modular building, so space was tight, and every inch had to be maximized for usability.
BC Housing sets strict requirements for commercial kitchens, so CRS worked alongside these guidelines to ensure the Clinton Seniors Facility met all requirements while at the same time providing the staff with the kitchen they wanted. When it came to appliance selection, the facility wanted to ensure the restaurant equipment was multi-functional and could be operated by inexperienced volunteers as well as trained staff.
The project was a roaring success and scored a 10/10 via client feedback. In fact, the commercial kitchen design was so favoured that the template for the Clinton Seniors Facility kitchen has been used in more than 6 other modular kitchens in the seniors care facility channel. Each new kitchen has been slightly tweaked for the specific needs of the project.
